It’s The Social Season. Let’s Get Dressed Up!
What to wear for the Summer Social Season?
Generally it means we can put on our finery and swan around looking fabulous!
In fact women have pretty much carte blanche to be seen in outfits that are showy,
frilly and decorated.
I don’t advocate to be an ostentacious dresser but you can definitely enjoy a little more freedom in the heady days of Summer weddings, soirées, sporting and outdoor events.
Prints & Florals Reign
It’s the time of year when floral prints and a bit of frou-frou are perfectly acceptable.
You can go colour crazy from the delicate to the dangerous.
There’s something romantic and joyous about flowers and blooms, and a floral motif
lends itself to flowing and billowing fabrics such as silk.
What’s more you can often find a choice from full blown cabbage roses, to ditsy blossoms to modern stylized Scandi prints.
CWC style tip: Unless it’s a definite fashion statement (1960’s Flower Power),
keep the size of bloom in line with your figure.
Generally speaking you want to avoid:
– the little girl look (same with some gingham designs)
– the Granny look (unless it’s deliberately Granny Chic)
– the British country house sofa look
Choose up-to-date or vintage prints or go bold with monochrome and wear the
the ever-popular polka dot.
Look for fluted or flutter sleeves, ruffles and a hemline that swishes.
The 6 dresses below will take you to most Summer social events.
