It’s said ‘if you can’t beat them, join them’.
As we head towards the final countdown towards Christmas, have you noticed how people start to add decorative symbols of festive jollity to their attire? These range from donning Father Christmas hats to sporting twinkling reindeer earrings to coming to work already dressed for an after-work party.
Whilst you don’t want to be a spoil-sport, this is the time to carefully manage not only your personal appearance, but also your Personal brand that you have been carefully nurturing and building up over the last 12 months or so.
Because it is Murphy’s Law, that a photo of you wearing ‘fun’ regalia will end up on the web. You will be left with plenty of time to explain yourself and it might take even longer to have ‘that photo’ taken down.
We recommend you stick to the rule of ‘appropriate dress for the occasion’. By all means dress up or down accordingly but if you are at work, join in without damaging your personal style.
And in that vein, going from your desk to a work-related dinner or party, choose a dress that can be work-appropriate by day and to which you can simply add or swop a couple of accessorising pieces.
It shows you value your invitation and are dressed appropriately. It also shows off your time-management skills. Rushing from desk to dinner in exactly the same clothes may show ‘I-am -still-in-business-mode’ but you have not taken advantage of adding value to the evening event.
Changing enough of your ensemble to register thanks and appreciation goes a long way. And it means you can relax the business modus just a touch. If you would like help in learning how to flex your outfit, get in touch
